Our Father
20x16" oil on canvas, PURCHASE INFORMATION
I just learned that this piece was accepted into the juried San Diego Regional Show at The Museum Of The Living Artist and it received an Honorable Mention award! Woo-Hoo! I'm so proud and just a little stunned. I thought twice or maybe three times about entering this painting because it is just a bit controversial. But I decided that, for decades, the best artists (and not just the commercially succesful ones) have stood up to shine a light on issues that make the public uncomfortable. I think it's in the job description. No question that I paint my share of quirky and whimsical pieces so an occasional painting to make you stop and think seems appropriate. If you'd like to see it in person along with many other works from San Diego's gifted artists, drop by the show's opening on this Friday, 12/12 from 6-8pm. The show will hang through January 25.

Hi Brenda! Some artist friends and I have been discussing "content" in painting and how it might often be missed in juried shows. Your paintings seem to confront and minimize that argument. This piece really speaks up!!
I find that your ability to translate a mood or an idea on a person's face, even with all the distortion, is simply marvelous!!
I am a subscriber to your feed and love every piece that is sent. Keep up the grrrrreat work!!
Wow! Thanks, Mike! I really wasn't sure about entering this piece in the show--in fact, I haven't show it to many people at all! But I've had a great response and will definitely be painting more "gritty" pieces with deeper concepts. I'm going to put that on my list for the new year!
I really appreciate that you took time to write to me. And happy painting to you!
Congrats!
Yes, could be viewed as rather provocative. Timely what with "Doubt" in theatres now.
Glad to hear more challenges are coming. Kick ass, take names.
RJ
That's exactly what I plan to do. Thanks, RJ!
Congratulations!!!! Being a huge fan of your work, I'm delighted that you're receiving well-deserved recognition and that the angels are such a hit -- have a wonderful holiday. Cheers!
Thanks, Johnnie! And Happy Holidays to you too!
