Small Town Boy
16x12" oil on canvas
This painting has been sitting, half-finished in my studio for about six months. Who knows why this happens? The thrill was gone... a rare occurrence for me. Once I start a painting I usually work on it until it is finished. Or if I'm painting a series I might have four or five going at the same time. But this little sucker has been taunting me from the corner of my studio for far too long. So I moved him. First to the top of a cabinet, then to my easel. And I just let it percolate until a tiny little inspiration bubbled up to the surface. And whadaya know? Sometimes it's just a matter of picking up the damn brush and getting to work.

You are exactly right--sometimes just getting busy with the brush is the only answer. Well, I love this one, but, then, I haven't seen one of your paintings I didn't love!
Thank you, Elizabeth! Here's one of my all time favorite quotes:
"Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work." --Chuck Close
So true!
This is a sad painting, that is why it took so long. Reminds me of one of the most famous Hindi songs - "Ek akela is sheher main. Raat mein aur dupeher mein. Abudana doond ta Hai. Ashiana doond ta hai" (translated - One alone in this city. At night and during hot noon. Seeking a living. Seeking a place to call his own.)
