It's all in the details...

details from the Couples Series

People often tell me that they never noticed all the details in my paintings until they got up really close. I like that, actually—it’s a little like the prize in the Cracker Jack box—all that delicious, sweet color so easy to devour and then just when you’re getting your fill you look really close and BAM! There’s the surprise. (Sorry, it’s not a decoder ring…) But on my paintings it’s secret messages and symbols scratched in to the paint or drawn on top of the dry pigment. It might be the lyrics to the music I’m listening to in my studio (tip of the hat to Paul Simon…). Or it might be my grocery list. But you’ll never know if you don’t get up close and personal…

These are details from my new Couples Series. Five new paintings I’ll be posting next week, hot off the easel!
