"Thumb sucking is a behavior found in humans, chimpanzees, captive ring-tailed lemurs, and other primates. It usually involves placing the thumb into the mouth and rhythmically repeating sucking contact for a prolonged duration. It can also be accomplished with any piece of skin within reach (such as the big toe) and is considered to be soothing and therapeutic for the person."

So for those of us that are just a wee bit unnerved by all the lunacy surrounding this year's presidential election, I would like to propose that we all take up thumbsucking (or toesucking) as a means of soothing ourselves until this circus is over. If it works for the chimpanzees maybe it will work for us. And if not, well, we can always run away and join that circus. I think the apes will be waiting for us. Those thumbs are going to come in handy over the next four years.
