"Best Boy"

6"x 8" oil on canvas, SOLD

I've taken a week off from painting and posting every day to ponder the direction my paintings have taken lately. I'm making a real effort to loosen up--it's so easy for me to get caught up in painting every little detail when, in fact, what I'm most interested in is capturing the essence of the subject. The challenge of completing a painting every day, or even most days, all too often means relying on painting in my comfort zone rather than pushing it to the next level. So these new images are my effort to shake it up a bit. Feel free to leave your comments!

You are of to a great start on your new exploration. This piece has great movement, color and space. I agree- it is hard to remember to always forget what you know in order to grow, when you are painting.

Well put! I'm going to put a sign in my studio that says "Remember to always forget what you know in order to grow". I appreciate your feedback. I really love to hear from other artists, especially when embarking on a new direction. I have been a fan of your work for some time, now. Love your feet and hands paintings.
