Don't Cry For Georgie

16x20" oil on canvas, available

Georgie Porgie, Puddin' and Pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the boys came out to play
Georgie Porgie ran away.

This refers to George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham (1592–1628). King James took Villiers as his lover and nicknamed him "Steenie" (a reference to St. Stephen described in the Bible as having the "face of an angel"). Villier's good looks also appealed to the ladies. His notorious affair with the Queen of France, King Louis XIII’s wife, ruined both of their reputations. This, however, was overlooked due to his great….hmm, friendship with England’s King James. Just a sweet little tale for the children!
