6x6" oil on canvas, SOLD
Puttin' on my party hat...just learned that my painting, Big Fairy Odd Mother, got the Juror's Choice award at the next Regional Exhibit at the San Diego Art Institute. Woot! Funny how these things happen. I was totally going to skip entering this one...not feeling the love in the last couple of juried shows I've entered and quite content with just staying home in my own little bubble on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. But the spousal unit insisted. And he was right. So the lesson learned: you can't be emotional about these juried shows. One day you're hot; the next day you're not. Has absolutely nothing to do with who you are as an artist.
Seth Godin says: "Art is what we call...
the thing an artist does.
It's not the medium or the oil or the price or whether it hangs on a wall or you eat it. What matters, what makes it art, is that the person who made it overcame the resistance, ignored the voice of doubt and made something worth making. Something risky. Something human.
Art is not in the eye of the beholder. It's in the soul of the artist."
Amen, Seth.. (but I'm still puttin' on my party hat!)

Congrats on the award! and kudos to the 'spousal unit'! Thanks for sharing Seth Godin's thoughts on this too.....something we all need to hear from time to time!
Great that you got the award! Funny isn't it these juried shows? Sometimes I wonder what planet judges are from. Other times I just accept that it wasn't right time, right place, right painting.
Seth's thoughts are perfect.
HUGE congratulations on your award!!! and for overcoming your inner voice and listing to hubby!!! I'm willing to bet he's got his party hat on too!!
